1.Who Collects Queen Creek Trash, and What It Costs
The Town of Queen Creek holds the contract; Waste Connections of Arizona, formerly RAD, drives the trucks. The Town handles billing, cart orders, complaints and the fee schedule, which is why the number to call is the Town at 480-358-3450 and not the hauler. The standard residential rate is $16.22 a month, and it buys three things: trash collected once a week, recycling collected once a week on the same day, and one bulk trash collection a month of up to six cubic yards.
That rate appears as a “Trash/Recycling” line on the same Town utility bill as water and sewer, so it is not a separate account to open or close. What a year of it costs, and what the Town has proposed changing
At the published rate, a standard household pays $194.64 a year for trash and recycling — our arithmetic, $16.22 across twelve months. Nothing in that figure is seasonal and nothing is metered, so unlike the water half of the bill it does not move with irrigation or summer heat.
On September 17, 2026 the Town posted a Notice of Intent proposing a $3.78 a month increase to the solid-waste fee for all curbside customers, with “other solid waste fees to be adjusted at similar percentage increases.” It is not adopted. A public hearing with possible Council action is set for Wednesday, November 18, 2026 at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Chambers, 20727 E. Civic Parkway. On the current $16.22 base that would be $20.00 a month, or $240.00 a year — our arithmetic, not a Town projection, and only if it is adopted as proposed.
2.When Is My Trash Day, and What Happens on Holidays?
Queen Creek does not publish a street-by-street list. It publishes two official lookup tools, and both answer the same question: a downloadable PDF zone map, linked from the Town service schedule page, and the address-searchable QC Services Map built on Esri ArcGIS, where you type an address and the map returns its collection day. Trash and recycling are always collected on the same day each week for a given zone, so there is one day to remember, not two.
Carts have to be out by 6 a.m. on that day. That is earlier than most people expect, and the Town publishes it as the deadline rather than as a suggestion: 6 a.m. is when the cart has to be at the curb, wheels in, not when the truck is promised.

The pattern worth internalizing is that only the two Thursday holidays move anything, and they move it forward rather than cancelling it. Christmas lands on a Friday in 2026 and the Town states outright that service is unaffected — worth checking again in 2027, when the day of the week changes.
3.Cart Colors, Weight Limits and the Six A.M. Rule
Two carts, two colors: the sandstone-colored cart is trash, the blue cart is recycling. Both are capped at 200 pounds and both must close. Trash goes in bagged and tied; recyclables go in loose, never in a tied bag.
The placement rules exist because the trucks empty carts with an automated electronic arm. That is exactly why the Town ties cart spacing and closed lids together: an overfilled or too-close cart can cause a truck to skip it entirely.
- Wheels against the curb, cart in the street, by 6 a.m. on the collection day.
- At least 3 feet between carts.
- At least 5 feet from mailboxes, parked vehicles, trees and driveways.
- Never blocking a sidewalk.
- Lid closed. The Town runs a “Shut Your Lid!” education campaign about exactly this, with its own logo.
Carts are also a line of their own on the fee schedule. It lists $100.00 to replace a cart damaged beyond normal wear and tear, assessed on inspection, $15.00 to swap a cart for a different size, and a $21.75 non-collection (missed-pickup) fee per cart — named and priced, with no trigger condition published alongside it. The underlying rules are codified in Queen Creek Town Code Chapter 10, Article 10-9.
Horses change the calculation. Horse manure is explicitly refused by bulk collection, and the Town sells a dedicated manure cart at $15.15 a month for the 95-gallon size or $11.15 for the 47-gallon, each plus a one-time $15.00 delivery fee, with the manure dried and bagged. That is a real line item to price into a horse property, alongside the acreage and irrigation questions that come with one.
4.What Goes in the Blue Recycling Cart, and What Does Not
The single most useful thing on the Town’s accepted list is glass, which the blue cart takes. The full accepted list is plastics — bottles, jugs, jars, trays, containers and cartons — plus cartons, paper, aluminum and metal cans, glass, and corrugated cardboard.

Plastic bags are the recurring failure. They are not accepted in the recycling cart at all, and the Town’s instruction is to put them in the trash cart or take them to a store drop-off. The same goes for bagging the recycling itself: loose is the rule.
For the genuinely ambiguous item, the Town publishes a “Recycle Right Wizard” search tool and an interactive “Know Before You Throw” game at queencreekaz.recycle.game. It is an unusually gamified approach to municipal recycling education, and it settles arguments faster than a general web search does.

5.The Queen Creek Recycling Center and the Other Drop-Offs
The QC Recycling Center is at 22179 E. Ryan Road, reached off Ryan Road near Frontier Family Park, following a relocation the Town records on its recycling page. It is open seven days a week, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. — sixteen hours a day, self-serve, with no appointment to make.
It takes everything eligible for the curbside blue cart, and adds a separate glass-only container and a cooking-oil recycling collection point. Glass works either way — it is on the Town’s curbside list and it has its own container here — so cooking oil is the one material the blue cart does not take at all. It is also open to all Town residents, including those not yet on Town trash service — the single most useful fact on this page for anyone in a new build waiting on cart delivery, or in a rental whose service sits with a landlord.

How many drop-off events a year? The Town publishes two different answers. Its Recycling page and its Bulk Trash page each say the events run four times a year, and the live calendar shows three upcoming dates on a quarterly rhythm. Its Resident Resources page, summarizing the hauler contract, instead says the monthly rate includes five special events per year. Both were published as of September 22, 2026. The two program pages agree with each other and with the calendar, so treat four as the working number — and check the events calendar rather than counting on either figure.
6.Bulk Trash: What They Take, What They Refuse and How to Book It
One bulk collection a month is included in the $16.22, and this is the part residents most often misunderstand: it is resident-scheduled, not automatically assigned by neighborhood. Nothing arrives unless you book it. The booking window closes at noon on the business day before your own regular collection day, through the Town’s online scheduling widget, and the account has to be active.
- Confirm your regular collection day on the Town’s zone map or the address-searchable QC Services Map.
- Schedule the bulk pickup through the Town’s online widget by noon on the business day before that day.
- Have the pile at the curb by 6 a.m., keeping it under six cubic yards.
- Allow up to 48 hours for collection — bulk does not necessarily go the same morning as the carts.
- Need a second one in the same month? That is an extra bulk pickup at $82.00, same six-cubic-yard cap.

The rug line is the one worth memorizing before a remodel. Area rugs up to 8 feet long are accepted; carpet and padding are not, at any length. A rolled bedroom carpet is the Town’s one self-haul-only item, and the discounted $10 rate below is what the Town publishes for a Queen Creek account, up to 1,000 pounds.
7.Household Hazardous Waste, Paint and the Gilbert Voucher
Queen Creek does not run its own household hazardous waste facility. It partners with the Town of Gilbert, and Queen Creek residents with active trash and recycling service can request a free voucher to use Gilbert’s. The voucher system is the constraint, not the facility: the Town issues up to 32 a month, first come first served, with an expected wait of about three weeks, and the voucher expires two weeks after it is issued.

The latex paint exclusion catches people out, because latex is the paint most households actually have left over. It is refused at Gilbert and belongs at one of the QC Recycles drop-off events — the next three confirmed dates being Saturday, November 14, 2026, Saturday, January 16, 2027 and Saturday, April 10, 2027, each 7 to 11 a.m.
Gilbert’s facility runs a swap shop: dropped-off household products — cleaners, weed killers, bug spray, sometimes unopened items — are free for the taking. Recycled latex paint in light brown, tan or gray is free to Queen Creek residents, capped at 25 gallons during high demand. If you are painting a rental turnover or a garage, that is real money in a program most residents never hear about.
8.Self-Hauling to the Apache Junction Transfer Station
The Town points self-haulers to the Waste Connections of Arizona Apache Junction Transfer Station, 3755 S. Royal Palm Road, Apache Junction, AZ 85119, where Queen Creek trash customers get a discounted $10 per load for up to 1,000 pounds. Carpet and padding are the items the Town marks self-haul only. Bulk collection also refuses refrigerators and freezers, car parts, horse manure, hazardous materials and construction materials, but the Town names no destination for those, so call 480-358-3450 and confirm before loading a trailer — the self-haul page publishes the station’s hours and the resident rate, not a list of what it accepts.
The discount is proof-based. Bring a current utility bill dated within 45 days, or ID matching the address on the account. The account has to be a Queen Creek trash account, which is another place where the incorporated-limits question decides what something costs; what a load costs without that proof is not published.

The Town describes this discount two ways. Its Self-Haul page states $10 for up to 1,000 pounds; its Resident Resources page says $10 per truck or trailer load with no weight stated. The Self-Haul page is the program-specific source, so plan around the 1,000-pound cap and treat the looser wording as a summary rather than a second, better deal.
9.How to Start Service, and Which Addresses Do Not Qualify
There is no separate trash signup. Town trash and recycling service begins automatically when you establish Town water service at a residential address inside the incorporated town limits. An existing home gets carts immediately; a new-construction home gets carts delivered the day water is connected. Everything starts at myutilities.queencreekaz.gov.
- Apply online at myutilities.queencreekaz.gov, allowing the Water Division two business days’ notice. Same-day service is available for an extra $35.
- Expect $150 due before turn-on: a $125 security deposit and a $25 non-refundable establishment fee.
- The deposit is automatically refunded after 12 consecutive on-time payments — it is not a fee, but it is cash out the door at move-in.
- Carts arrive with the water connection. From then on the Trash/Recycling line rides the same monthly utility bill as water and sewer.
- Pay online or by autopay through MyUtilities, by phone at 480-358-3480, by mail to P.O. Box 29014, Phoenix, AZ 85038-9014, at the drive-up drop box at 22350 S. Ellsworth Road, or in person at 22358 S. Ellsworth Road, Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The addresses this contract does not cover
The contract covers the incorporated limits of Queen Creek and nothing else, and the Town enforces that at signup rather than only stating it as policy. Its own new-service page tells residents of San Tan Valley to contact their HOA to establish trash service. San Tan Valley is its own incorporated town — it incorporated on September 17, 2025 — bordering Queen Creek, not an outlying part of it, and several Town pages still describing it as unincorporated are out of date. What Queen Creek publishes is the instruction to go through an HOA; whether San Tan Valley’s own town government has since stood up a municipal contract is not something the Town’s pages answer, so ask there.
A mailing address is not a boundary. Only 85142 carries “Queen Creek” as the USPS-recommended city, and plenty of addresses that read Queen Creek sit outside town limits, which is the same trap that governs tax rates and school assignment. Before assuming the $16.22 line will appear, check the parcel against the Town’s own boundary tool — the Queen Creek ZIP code map explains why the postal city proves nothing, and the county line running through town is a separate question: the contract follows the incorporated town limits, which take in Pinal County addresses as well as Maricopa ones. One billing oddity worth knowing: areas that receive water from the legacy H2O, Inc. system — now Town-owned — get a separate bill from the Town for trash, rather than one combined utility statement. If your trash charge is not on the water bill, that is the likely reason, and 480-358-3450 is the number to confirm it.
Leaving for the summer? The Town allows a temporary discontinuance for a $25.00 application fee, due on submission, and it may not exceed six months in a calendar year. What the fee schedule does not say is what happens to the $16.22 monthly charge while service is suspended, so ask at 480-358-3450 before counting on a saving.
10.Where Every Awkward Item Actually Goes
Most Queen Creek trash questions are really one question: which channel does this thing belong to? There are six — the two standard carts, the optional manure cart, the monthly bulk pickup, the recycling center or a drop-off event, the Gilbert hazardous waste facility, and the Apache Junction transfer station. This table routes the items that cause the most confusion.

A short checklist for a new Queen Creek household
- Look the address up on the QC Services Map and write the collection day on the fridge. Both carts go out that same day.
