Queen Creek Elementary Schools: Every Option, Its Real City and Its 2024-25 State Letter Grade

1.Every Elementary School Option In and Around Queen Creek

Twenty-four campuses, three school districts and seven charter operators. The column most comparison pages leave out is the city — the one printed on each school’s own mailing address, which is a fact, rather than a claim about which houses it serves, which is not.

Four rows deliberately say “Not confirmed”. The J.O. Combs elementary schools appear in the state file with letter grades and San Tan Valley addresses, but no published grade span for each campus could be confirmed, and a blank cell is more useful than a guess. 2.Does Queen Creek, AZ Have Good Schools? What the 2024-25 Grades Say

By the state’s own accountability measure, yes — and at elementary level the spread is unusually tight. Seventeen of the twenty-four campuses above hold an A for 2024-25 and seven hold a B. Not one elementary campus in this set holds a C, a D or an F. That is a real finding and also a limit: when seventeen of twenty-four options share the top grade, the grade stops being a way to choose between them.

At district level for the same year, Queen Creek Unified holds an A** and so does Higley Unified; J.O. Combs Unified holds a **B. Inside Queen Creek Unified, the 2024-25 file rates 15 schools in total: ten A, four B and one C. Seven of the ten A grades belong to elementary campuses. Two of the four B grades do — Gateway Polytechnic Academy and Jack Barnes Elementary — with the other two going to Queen Creek Junior High School and Crismon High School. The single C belongs to Queen Creek Virtual Academy, an online and hybrid campus rather than a neighborhood school. The district-wide picture is in our Queen Creek Unified profile.

What the A–F system actually weighs is worth knowing before you lean on it. For a traditional K–8 school, the state’s 2024-25 A–F business rules set the weights at 50% year-over-year academic growth, 30% assessment proficiency, 10% English learner progress and 10% acceleration and readiness — and that last tenth is where subgroup performance lives, covering third-grade literacy, eighth-grade math, attendance, outcomes across student demographic groups and the inclusion of special education students in mainstream classes. High schools trade most of the growth weight for graduation and college-and-career readiness. What no version of the formula measures is class size, bell times, commute, playground shade or how a campus handles a mid-year move. Those are the variables that separate two A-rated elementaries three miles apart, and none of them appear in a letter.

3.The Nine Queen Creek Unified Elementary Schools

Queen Creek Unified elementary schools run kindergarten through grade 6, which means a sixth grader is still on an elementary campus here and moves up to a junior high for grade 7. Nine campuses carry that K–6 span, and seven of them hold an A for 2024-25.

The seven with an A for 2024-25

• Desert Mountain Elementary — 22301 S Hawes Rd, Queen Creek. Shares a name with Desert Mountain Park, not a campus program.
• Faith Mather Sossaman Elementary — 22801 Via Del Jardin, Queen Creek, 480-474-6900. Not to be confused with Sossaman Middle School, which is Higley Unified.
• Frances Brandon-Pickett Elementary — 22076 E Village Loop Rd, Queen Creek, 480-987-7420.
• Katherine Mecham Barney Elementary — 19684 S 225th Pl, Queen Creek, 480-474-6720. The one QCUSD elementary with no half-day kindergarten option, and the one that starts ten minutes earlier than the rest.
• Queen Creek Elementary School — 23636 S 204th St, Queen Creek, 480-987-5920. The campus that carries the town’s name; it is one of nine, not the town’s elementary school.
• Schnepf Elementary School — 23161 E Grange Pkwy, Queen Creek, 480-474-6760. It shares its name with Schnepf Farms and the family that has farmed here since 1941, when the area was still called Rittenhouse.
• Silver Valley Elementary — 9737 E Toledo Ave, Mesa, AZ 85212. The number the school publishes, 480-474-6920, is its attendance line rather than a confirmed main office number. A Queen Creek Unified school inside the Eastmark master plan, with a Mesa mailing address.

The two with a B for 2024-25

• Gateway Polytechnic Academy — 5149 S Signal Butte Rd, Mesa, AZ 85212, 480-987-7440. The second Queen Creek Unified elementary with a Mesa address, also inside Eastmark. The name points at a polytechnic or STEM emphasis; nothing beyond the name could be confirmed from the school’s own published material, so treat the program as a question for the front office rather than a fact.
• Jack Barnes Elementary — 20750 S 214th St, Queen Creek, 480-987-7400. A B for 2024-25, one of four across the whole district that year.

The two Mesa addresses are the detail that trips up relocating families most often. Both campuses sit inside the Eastmark master-planned community, which straddles the Mesa and Queen Creek area, and both are genuinely Queen Creek Unified schools. An address in Eastmark and an address in Queen Creek are not the same thing, and neither one settles which campus a child attends.

4.Kindergarten: Age Cutoff, Half Day or Full Day, and the Bell Times

A child must turn five by August 31 to start kindergarten in Queen Creek Unified, per the district’s own kindergarten page as published in September 2026. A child who misses that date by days rather than months is not automatically out: the district runs an early-entrance testing and evaluation process, and it charges a non-refundable $75 testing fee. That fee is the one hard number in the whole kindergarten process, and it is charged whether or not the evaluation goes your way.

Format is the second decision, and it is campus-specific. Half-day kindergarten is offered at every QCUSD elementary except Katherine Mecham Barney Elementary, which is full-day only. If half-day is the plan, that single exception narrows the field before a boundary check does.

The date worth circling is July 20, 2026. A district that starts school in the third week of July puts the whole enrollment and supply-list scramble weeks ahead of where a family moving from a late-August state expects it. QCUSD publishes no dated registration window for standard kindergarten — it runs a year-round enrollment packet instead — so the July start date is the deadline that actually governs. The one dated exception is early entrance: registration for that testing opens in January. If the move lands in June, the kindergarten decision gets made from the old address. 5.The Elementary Schools That Are Not Queen Creek Unified

Fifteen of the twenty-four campuses on this page are run by somebody other than Queen Creek Unified. That is not a footnote in a town this size — it is most of the market.

Cortina Elementary School — Higley Unified, with a Queen Creek address

Cortina Elementary sits at 19680 S 188th St with a Queen Creek, AZ 85142 address and belongs to Higley Unified School District, whose district office is in Gilbert. It holds an A in the 2024-25 state file, has been A-rated since 2017 according to its state report-card page, and won an A+ School of Excellence award in 2014. Its own page records that it opened in August 2006 as Higley Unified’s seventh school.

Its grade span is genuinely disputed between two state sources, and we are not going to pick one for you. The State Board’s FY2025 A–F file records K–6, matching the school’s own page; the Arizona Department of Education record lists preschool through grade 8. Confirm the current span with the school before you plan around either. Higley Unified publishes a school-boundaries page, and that page — not a listing sheet, and not this one — is where an address is settled. J.O. Combs Unified — four elementary schools, all with San Tan Valley addresses

Ellsworth Elementary, Jack Harmon Elementary, Kathryn Sue Simonton Elementary and Ranch Elementary each hold a B for 2024-25 and each carry a San Tan Valley, AZ 85140 address in the state file. A fifth campus, Combs Traditional Academy, also holds a B, but its grade span could not be confirmed and it may not be an elementary campus at all. No J.O. Combs school was confirmed to use a Queen Creek mailing address, which is the honest answer to a question this market asks constantly. If your address could plausibly sit in either town, the Queen Creek and San Tan Valley comparison sorts out which lines you are crossing.

Ten charter campuses, and how their seats are filled

Five charter campuses stop at grade 6 — two of them starting at pre-K — and five run K–8. All ten are public charter schools, which in Arizona means no tuition; American Leadership Academy and Legacy Traditional Queen Creek each state it plainly on their own sites. None of them assigns seats by address. Under A.R.S. § 15-184 an Arizona charter must enroll every student who applies on time unless applications exceed capacity, at which point it must use an equitable selection process such as a lottery, with sibling preference permitted. A campus with open seats is not required to run a lottery at all. The application window, not your street, decides whether a seat exists. One practical difference is worth more than any of the grades: American Leadership Academy runs an optional paid bus and shuttle service with individual and family pricing tiers, described on its own site. It is the only charter transportation confirmed anywhere in this set — for Legacy Traditional, Benjamin Franklin, Heritage Academy Gateway, Cambridge Academy East, Leading Edge Academy and Eduprize, transportation could not be confirmed either way, which is not the same as confirming there is none. 6.Specialty Programs: Gifted, Core Knowledge and What Is Not Published

This is the part of elementary research where marketing copy outruns the sources fastest, so here is what is actually published and what is not.

• Queen Creek Unified — Enhanced Learning Program (Gifted). The district operates a gifted and advanced-learner program under that name, published on its own site as of September 2026. Identification criteria, testing windows and which campuses host which service model are not published in a form we could verify; ask the district directly on 480-987-5935.
• American Leadership Academy — Core Knowledge. ALA builds its curriculum on the Core Knowledge Sequence and runs a values framework it calls R.A.I.S.E. — Respect, Achievement, Integrity, Service, Excellence. Uniforms are referenced on ALA’s own site, though no formal uniform policy document was available, so garment, cost and vendor details are a front-office question.
• Benjamin Franklin Charter School — classical model. Both K–6 campuses, Crismon and Power, run a classical and traditional-education model, and both hold an A for 2024-25. Their K–6 campuses feed directly into a single 7–12 high school, with no separate middle school in between.
• Heritage Academy Gateway — hybrid model. The state accountability file records a hybrid instructional model for this K–8 campus. The operator’s own tagline also refers to K–12 schools, so confirm the span for this campus rather than for the brand.
• Gateway Polytechnic Academy — name only. The “Polytechnic” in the name implies a STEM emphasis. No curriculum detail beyond the name could be confirmed from the school’s published material. We are not going to write a STEM program into existence from a sign.

What none of the twenty-four campuses publishes in a verifiable form is a current per-school enrollment figure. Class sizes, waitlists and capacity pressure are therefore invisible from the outside, which is a real gap in a town adding campuses this quickly. A front office will usually tell you the current number for a specific grade if you ask; no published source will.

7.Campuses Named for Queen Creek That Sit Somewhere Else

Serving Queen Creek families is not the same as being in Queen Creek, and a Queen Creek mailing address is not the same as being in Queen Creek Unified. These are the specific mix-ups worth catching before you fill in an application.

The Legacy Traditional row is the one most likely to send you to the wrong building. Two different schools, two different operators, one address circulating under the wrong name on a third-party directory. The school’s own site is the source that settles it, and the same rule applies to every row above: the operator’s published address beats the aggregator every time.

The 85140 rows matter beyond pedantry. By the Census Bureau’s 2020 ZCTA-to-county crosswalk, ZIP 85140 sits 100% within Pinal County, and the Postal Service’s own recommended city for it is San Tan Valley, with Queen Creek only an accepted alternate. The Town does not state whether a given 85140 address falls inside Queen Creek town limits, so verify the address rather than assuming either way. A ZIP code has never proved a county, a town boundary or a school district. If you are still comparing areas rather than addresses, the neighborhood comparisons are the place to start.

8.How to Confirm Your Assigned Elementary School Before You Sign

Nothing above tells you which campus a specific address is assigned to, and that is deliberate rather than an omission. Queen Creek Unified publishes an interactive lookup tool and no static boundary map or downloadable boundary document that we could locate, so there is no published map for anyone to quote — including the pages that quote one. This is the order to work through.

1. Start from the exact street address on the parcel record, not from the listing sheet or the community name. A corner lot can sit on the far side of a boundary from the house next door.
2. Run that address through QCUSD’s official home-school lookup, the School Site Locator, which the district links from its own enrollment pages.
3. If the address is not a QCUSD one, call the operator instead: Higley Unified on 480-279-7000, J.O. Combs Unified on 480-987-5300. Ask for the assigned elementary campus and the grade span it currently serves.
4. Ask the same office which junior high or middle school that elementary feeds into. The K–6 answer and the grade 7 answer come off two different boundary maps, and families routinely confirm one and assume the other.
5. Confirm the kindergarten format at that specific campus — half day or full day — rather than at district level. One QCUSD campus is full-day only.
6. For a campus outside your boundary, read QCUSD’s open enrollment page. Confirm the home-boundary school first, file the PDF application, expect approval to depend on capacity, and plan your own driving: the district provides no transportation for open-enrolled students outside their home boundary.
7. For a charter, apply directly and watch the window rather than the address. If the campus is oversubscribed, state law puts you into an equitable selection process such as a lottery; if it is not, there may be no lottery at all.
8. Re-run the boundary check before you sign, and again before enrollment day if months have passed. Boundaries are the district’s to redraw, the tool is free, and the answer you got in March is not evidence about August.
